And the winner…

Of the 2010 RMIT student prize is shopgirl pal Laura Anderson! This particular award was presented (for the first time) in-between the two RMIT student runway shows on Saturday night.

Her leather-clad collection of corsetry-cum-sportswear was black and spliced with industrial inspired digi prints, a little bit goth, a little bit futuristic and totally mind-blowing.

Laura is now off to Milan to complete an internship with an international design house of her choice.  Make sure you come see us when your first collection samples are ready! (pics taken from fashionising.com)

Run to Paradise…

Alice was lucky enough to have the lovely Techa from Birthday Suit fly down to create a beautiful window display comprised of pieces from their upcoming collection ‘Paradise Bound.’

Our good pal REJ from threethousand scribbled about the installation in this weeks issue, have a look (she is much more eloquent than this shopgirl could ever be!)

Photographer Corinne Day dies at 45…

British fashion photographer Corinne Day has died at age 45 from a brain tumour. The photographer will most likely be remembered as the one who discovered Kate Moss at age sixteen and took THOSE photographs of Moss in all her untouched glory.

Mari Funaki: Objects at the NGV

Renowned metal-smith Mari Funaki was not only known and loved for her incredible mild-steel jewellery and sculptural works but she was also a great ambassador and supporter of contemporary jewellery in Melbourne.

This month she has been honoured by the NGV with the most comprehensive exhibition of her work to date.

To celebrate ‘Mari Funaki: Objects’ currently showing at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, we have a beautiful exhibition publication to giveaway.

Nicholas Building Open Studios – next week!

Ever wonder what goes on upstairs at Alice? Well the historical Nicholas Building is home to a cacaphony of artists, designers,  galleries and all round creatives types.

Next Thursday 19th and Friday 20th between 4-9pm you can get a closer look at the productive dwellings that house some of Melbourne’s most creative, including past and present jewellers and artists like Karla Way (Exhibit K), Natalia Milosz-Piekarska, Simon MacEwan, Roxanne Watts and tin & ed.
