Puppy love?
Thursday, January 14th, 2010Harpers Bazaar are making us happy of late, and now even more so by putting together an “Iconic Australia” project with nine designers (the likes of Akira, Romance was Born, Willow, Dion Lee, Josh Goot and Tina Kalivas - need we go on?) including celebs and prominent locals. The photo shoots are loosely based on Disney animations and will dominate the April 2010 edition. The full Australian Ballet have signed on for the Cinderella/Willow shoot. Jenny Kee is starring in Michelle Jank’s Fantasia Wonderland. Did we say Aussie legends?! Which reminds us…
Romance was Born are looking for 101 human ’Dalmations’ for their shoot. It’s TOMORROW on the grand staircase of Sydney State Theatre, January 15th between the hours of 1pm and 3pm; shooting to commence at 2pm sharp. We hear there are a few spaces left! Dress wildly in black and white (spots are appreciated and welcomed!). If you can make it, RSVP is essential to Ashley at harpersbazaarmarchproject@yahoo.com.au

With Mark Vassallo and the newish editor clever Edwina McCann on board we’re loving Harpers and Australian magazines again. Entice super-stylist Vanessa Coyle back and we’ll be hooked! Can’t wait to see those familiar puppy faces in Harpers in April!

In Vogue Indeed

“A bit like inviting a bus-load of grandparents to a dance party hosted by Cicolina.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Vogue paints a disturbingly brilliant picture of the design delights of the legendary Romance Was Born…
This July Vogue Australia features a whopping five-page spread on one of our fave designers (and possibly yours) – Romance Was Born. We know we mention them often, but we can’t help ourselves! We want the world to know how clever OZ design talent and finally Vogue’s on our side.
All white…
Friday, May 22nd, 2009
Today was the first foggy morning we can remember since god knows when – so beautiful with everything in a haze of white. We love a ridiculous amount of colour as much as the next clown, but sometimes it pays to go for the calm and pure beauty of Melbourne’s nemesis colour – white!!
Here is a selection of our favourite glacial treats gracing the shop floor as we speak.
This Arnsdorf trench ($640 in case you were wondering) will keep you protected from winter chills and looking Parisian chic. And there’s more… much more.
Rosemount Australian Fashion Week Day #3
Thursday, April 30th, 2009This morning we awoke to rain and a trip across town at the crack of dawn to the Sydney Theatre Company where Romance Was Born would be putting on what we already knew would be THE show of the week. Surrounded on all sides by windows that peered out into the bright early morning sky and the sparkling water of Sydney harbour, the setting was magic. Before us was set out a sumptuous banquet of various flotsam including a mer-man and not one but four fresh squid lovingly decorated with pearls and glitter – as you do, Mark Vassallo knows no limits! A glam mermaid played the harp while guests whispered expectantly.
The show started calmly with ready-to-wear straight from a beach side tea party. But the theatrics and drama soon ran high as models sauntered slowly around the room and centerpiece, stopping several times in front of the crowd to pose, cutting angular, serpentine silhouettes. With seashell covered shoes, pearl adorned nails and colourful, three-dimensional eye make-up we were in heaven as our fav models morphed into mysterious creatures from deep-sea mermaid kingdoms.
Romance Was Born A/W 09 ‘Yeti Magic’
Saturday, April 25th, 2009Shopgirl has been beaming over Luke and Anna since Romance was Born was first conceived, and our smiles have only grown since they won the Designer of the Year Award and now we’re crazy about the new range. We’re absolutely delighted to have the stock in our hands, up close and personal! Featuring copious amounts of fringing in the excessive style that defines Romance Was Born, this season’s collection, ‘Yeti Magic’, brings together all the dangerous mystique of craggy mountain peaks and the fantastical drama of snowy cave-dwelling monsters. Featuring hand dyed ponchos inspired by Japanese crushed ice treats (kaki gori!), the theatrics of Romance Was Born unfailingly turn up the heat for winter, and show promise for an incredible show at Australian Fashion Week. Stay on the look out for regular updates, because Shopgirl is going to be lurking around the romance cave party at AFW for a colourful, glacial feast…
