LMFF Designer Award …

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

The 2010 LMFF Designer Award happened last night. Our esteemed leader had the joy of being project manager for the Designer Award – one of Melbourne Fashion Week’s greatest events! There were tears all round when Karen Webster addressed the designers backstage. Karen’s leaving as director of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival after 5 brilliant years. Sadness! But she’ll be gracing the halls of our best fashion institution – RMIT. And we suspect will still be involved in the Designer Award – after all it’s her baby. Dion Lee took home a $20,000 prize courtesy of Woolmark – $10,000 cash and $10,000 towards travel to one of two of the world best fabric fairs – it’s all about the cloth! Backstage pics to come!

Calling all new designers

Friday, February 5th, 2010

You know how we love to champion the new. The peeps at The Spirit of the Black Dress are calling for Fashion and Textile designers to enter their 2010 exhibition. You may be one of ten new designers selected to have your work on display as part of this year’s L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. We hear last year’s event was quite a shindig!

Applicants will be assessed on originality, silhouette an texture, and most importantly MUST use ’sustainable’ principles… a big plus in our books and an opportunity to research what this can mean! For your application form, rules on sustainability and prizes visit www.spiritoftheblackdress.com.au

But get your skates on… entries close 5pm on Friday 12 February 2010

L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Fashion Festival has come to a reluctant close, and Shopgirl couldn’t be happier with the talent and creativity presented by some of our favourite designers. We were lucky enough to be represented on the judging panel for the student award as part the Metamorphosis showcase. Our favourites included Sarah Schofield’s laser cut rose leather and Sarah MacDonell’s mastery of woolen textures, however at the end of the day it was the incredible Michelle Czech who stole our hearts with anemone like structures and voluminous dresses.

Not only does Shopgirl love finding new talent, we’re also devoted to our old favourites. Inspiring shows from Maus Cat Berlin, Ellery and Kostantina Mittas had us all teary eyed, as if we were watching our own children grow up and head off into the world!

Romance Was Born take the prize

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

With all but one of the designers up for the Woolmark Designer Of The Year Award at L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival from our very own stable, Shopgirl couldn’t be prouder. We were delighted when Romance Was Born’s Luke and Anna took out the $10,000 prize, and even more so as Luke donned a Birthday Suit Miranda Cape for the event. What an Aussie! Good luck to the kids who are now heading to Italy for Pitti Fialti, and congratulations to the other nominees, especially Ellery for her super saucy presentation.

Here are beaming bunnies Luke and Anna besotted by their glass statuette:
