Hello beloved fashion peoples!
We are Nella Themelios + Kim Brockett, curators of the Insert Coin Here project, a group exhibition that forms part of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Cultural Program.
To coincide with the show’s imminent arrival at Alice Euphemia, the lovely Alice ladies have kindly asked us to write a series of guest blog posts! As two long-term fans (right from the days when we were baggy t-shirt wearing adolescents, to our currently more refined status as sack-dress wearing ladies), we couldn’t be happier to extend our collaboration with one of our favourite fashion boutiques!
But first, a bit about the project. Insert Coin Here is a mobile exhibition comprising two vending machines filled with editioned works by 62 artists, designers and craft practitioners. The Insert Coin Here vending machines will be popping up at various venues around the Melbourne CBD and make their appearance at Alice Euphemia for the duration of fashion week – Sunday 14 March to Sunday 21 March. There’s lots of fabulous people involved, including a few of Alice’s favourites like Michaela Bruton (whose jewellery collection AD is now in store), Nathan Gray (who had an exhibition at Alice in 2005), and Luci Everett (who has done a wonderful job on the graphic design for both Alice and Insert Coin Here). In total, there are 700 capsules to be randomly dispensed throughout the month of March – and all for $2!
Our first day at Craft Victoria saw the machines emptied in a mere 6 hours, so be sure you get in quick. If you miss out, fret not as the machines are restocked with each change of venue. (We hear they are going great guns at their current location, Captains of Industry!)
You can read more about the project as well as the participating artists by visiting our exhibition blog: http://www.insertcoinhere2010.blogspot.com/
In the meantime, do join us for drinks, good times, one vending machine, and Kim’s birthday at our official opening party at Friday 12 March at 1000 £ Bend, 361 Lt Lonsdale Street from 7pm to 11pm.
See you there!
XOXO,
Nella + Kim
