Advance Australia’s Flair. It’s true, absence makes the heart grow fonder. This rings true for Antipodium ‘down-under’ fashion ambassadors, who’ve helped introduce good ol’ London town to gem Australian and NZ labels since their envoyship docked in 2003. Now they bring their inspiration back home. Antipodium is a killer basics range inspired by the larrikin irreverence of our sun burnt country and sassy edge from the streets of Londo. The key to this first time range is affordability and easy style with a cheeky twist. Shirtdresses are a necessity in any ladies wardrobe and Antipodium serve it up ‘Sh*t Hot Shirtmaker’ style in grey/lurex stripe and naughty black and white gingham. The very handy ‘paperdag’ trouser and skirt come in black and chino, yes chinos are making a delightful resurgence, Stephen Malkmus of Pavement would be so proud. Antipodium use luxurious cottons and silk - its all natural fibres here – with most garments under $250. The colour palate is kept simple; black white trench a hint of print and lurex and a cheerful slap of purple.
Yes geek chic is here to stay, it’s hip to be square. |

Part alpine lumberjack, part fisherman’s friend, part Carnaby road tailoring – There is a certain ye olde world charm about Mjolk. Like a fav uncle, we love the ‘cut of their jib’. You can see it in the quality of the denim they use for their ‘sooperdooper jean’ or the neat line of their slim fitted ‘Monday Monday blazer’ that fits magically like a glove. Mjolk know how to make a lad stand out from the madding crowd. We’re looking forward to having their legendary skinny jeans at Alice; available in good old black, raw indigo and a new favourite ‘red red good in bed.’ There are some winter staples in here too, quality super fine knits for the discerning chap including low v neck jumpers and cardigans in twilight blue, red, yellow and grammar school grey. The ’94 inch scarf just has to be mentioned – It’s so long you could share it with someone else while you’re wearing it. The 94’inch scarf is available in a cool piano keyboard print and a trusty Doctor Who style stripe they’re 100% wool of course! Bring on the cool change. |

Alpha 60, Dhini, Gail Sorronda, Life with Bird, Romance was Born,Yeojin Bae. This year was a tough one for the judges with a strong field of contenders. Our hearts at Alice were equally torn. We recall Alpha 60’s Residency at Alice in September ’06 fondly and now they are our new friendly neighbours. In 2003 Alice awarded Dhini’s 2nd year collection at RMIT with the “Alice Euphemia Most Promising Student Award.” Life with Bird has long been a must have at Alice. Romance was Born, pioneers in the risk taking and fun making department, kicked off our first ever fashion Residency in August ’06. These guys were a hard act to follow. |

@ Viewing Space level 6,
Room 16 Nicholas Building. A fine group of 8 talented artists including our mate Elke Kamer consider beauty, success and happiness and contemporary medias obsession with these ideals. Using photography and mixed media these kids explore the modern worlds ‘extreme’ efforts to achieve and maintain the illusion of beauty and youth, in the elusive pursuit of utopian happiness and indeed ‘the golden age’. On till March 17 |

Porcelain that is gothic, disturbing and humorous. Disemboweled teddy bears that ooze beautiful golden entrails while riding atop of a jubilant elephant? Curious? There might be some left over gold at Someday but the exhibition officially finished on the 12th of March. |

This awesome fashion lineup boasted a colossal15 labels. You certainly got your dollars worth here with event sponsors Yen and Dazed & Confused playing the good time hosts for the event, plenty of drinks and free flowing fun was had by all. Worthy mentions Friedrich Gray kicked off the show with a strong look of urban bounty hunters – bold check hoodie shirts, cashmere/cotton cardis and tees and those legendary zip pocket pants are back this time in elctro white the good news it’s for boys and girls alike. Kate Hurst was tres chic with her cutie 60’s looks in check, stripe and leopard spots. Illionaire with Danny Darko was brooding style throughout, the electric blue trench is gonna be hard to resist. Material Boy was all whacked out on rainbow bright, earth core delight – we all loved it, so much fun. Maus Cat Berlin served up a gothic disco that would have Siouxie wanting more, her slippery black jacket with satin lapels and razor shoulders will have you slicing your way through the night and probably into the dawn – As usual Maus was tough and sexed up in black and white. The Grand finale Romance was Born were the jaw dropping show stoppers, their be-dazzled balaclava wearing “jewel thief” dress was out to break the law stealing more that just the show. Good to see the classic koala hoody is reinterpreted in black as an evil nocturnal twin with spooky white hologram eyes, now sporting a long sleeve for winter. Their one off hand knitted owl cardi seemed reminiscent of David Bowie’s entrance as an owl in the Labyrinth – hot. Their hologram Dunlop volleys are sure to be a coveted item if you can get you mitts on them. It was quite a show to wrap up L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Week for 2007.
In store NOW at Alice are Romance was Born, Friedich Gray and Maus cat berlin |

Ok so it seems the not-so-long-ago nineties are back. Flannel checked shirts have been sneaking into wardrobes for a while now but there are bolder flash-backs a foot. Doc Martins are back in vogue -8’ups or 10’ups? You decide. How do you feel about stirrup pants and body suits? It’s a fine line between pleasure and pain. If pulled off with gallant flair, we think excellent. There will be a lot of bold tartan out there this season so get set to reinterpret the highland fling. |
